October 11 – Prairies of Saskatchewan and Manitoba

Today we are crossing the prairies of Kansas and Nebraska….ooops…they are in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  These prairies stretch from these provinces in the north of Canada all the way down through the United States to almost the Gulf of Mexico. And from the train it looks very much like the prairies of the United States.

This area is some of the richest farmland in Canada and accounts for much of Canada’s agricultural output.

There were far more rivers and lakes than one is likely to see in the prairies of the US Midwest.

There were also a number of little "mountains" that were from the potash mines that are in the area.

We sat most of the day in the lounge enjoying the scenery, chatting with folks and eating too much in the dining car.  The food is good and plentiful.
