We
awoke to very light snow fall and low clouds.
We can’t see much of the mountain across the valley from our hotel room
and certainly none of the mountains surrounding the area. We had a leisurely
morning with a late breakfast/brunch at the hotel in their coffee shop with
views overlooking the valley and then went back to the room to finish
packing.
We
were picked up at 1:15 for a combination tour and drive to Lake Louise. Ed, our driver, stopped twice for photo
opportunities and for discussions about the formation of the mountains.
We
arrived at iconic Lake Louise mid-afternoon to more snow. The lake is beautiful but the clouds are low
and the snow is coming down much more steadily.
Our room is on the 8th floor facing the lake so we have
awesome views.
After
dropping off our luggage we grabbed the cameras and headed down to take some
photos.
It
was interesting to see that as cold as it is and as snowy as it is that people
could, and were, taking small red canoes out for a row around the lake. Brrrrrrr.
The lake is beautiful but the hotel sort of makes the entire scene, so we walked around to take pictures of the hotel also.
We
had dinner reservations tonight at the restaurant overlooking the lake.
Today is Canada’s Thanksgiving Day so Phyllis
and Mary opted for the turkey dinner. It
was very good but nothing like a typical Turkey Day dinner at home. The Executive Chef had to put his spin on
everything. Among other things the
turkey and dressing was rolled up in speck (bacon) and the cranberries had been
reduced to cranberry leather/chips.
Tasted like cranberries but very different texture. The desserts were all excellent and the pecan
tart that Mary had was almost like pecan pie.
Decadent.
