October 21 – Photo Tour to Peggy’s Cove

Today we opted for a photo tour to Peggy's Cover.  We were there a number of years ago but it was very rainy and overcast so we needed to visit it again.  We were met very early at the hotel by Geordie, the owner of Picture Perfect Tours of Halifax.  It turned out that we were the only ones who signed up for a photo tour today…so private tour it is.

We got to Peggy’s Cove shortly after dawn.  There was some low lying fog but it was a clear day that soon turned wonderfully sunny.  Geordie was a great instructor, helping us with tips on good shots and, more importantly to Mary, giving great advice and tutorials on how to work with her camera.  She is beginning to get it.

So photo opportunities included Peggy’s Point lighthouse (the most photographed lighthouse in Canada - for good reason),

people enjoying the light house and the waves,

and the coast line (with a lot of wave action from the previous day’s storm).

We spent quite a bit of time wandering around the village of Peggy’s Cove...

and its harbor.

and nearby Clam Pond.

Georgie worked with us on shooting unusual angles and compositions.

This is Mary and Georgie trying to take a photo of a piece of seaweed.

And this is the results.

There is also a museum in the village (that we didn't go into) that was donated to Nova Scotia by the Finnish-born artist and sculpture William deGarthe.  In this small park is a relief that he sculpted into one of the stones near his house.

On the way back to Halifax we stopped at a memorial overlooking the bay.  The memorial was for SwissAir flight 111 that crashed off Peggy’s Cove in 1998.  The views here of the lighthouse were also amazing.

We got back in time for a light late lunch and then headed for the room for some down time.
